10 places to visit in Gran Canaria

If you’re looking for wonderful places to visit during your trip to Gran Canaria, you’ve come to the right place: today I’ll reveal 10 must-see places that make this island a must-see stop on your travel itinerary.

Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the archipelago: a destination for many digital nomads and anyone who loves mild temperatures and breathtaking natural landscapes, the island of Gran Canaria offers all sorts of attractions.

Every island has its peculiarities and its must-visit places: Gran Canaria is no exception: ready to discover its 10 must-see places? Don’t forget to let me know in the comments which of these places you already knew and which you will include in your travel itinerary, I’ll be waiting for you!

1. Maspalomas Dunes

An incredible landscape where oasis and desert meet to dance together facing the ocean, the Maspalomas dunes are located on the southern tip of the island and are an important protected area. One of the magics of this place is the life that inhabits the sand dunes, which are constantly moving and shifting, giving rise to new conformations each time.

2. Puerto de Mogán

Also called the “Little Venice,” because of the canals that connect its two harbors, Puerto de Mogan is one of the places to definitely put on your list of places to visit in Gran Canaria. All you have to do is take a walk through the alleys of this cheerful-looking fishing village with its colorful houses, and you will immediately feel enveloped by its relaxed atmosphere.

3. The Cenobio of Valerón

The Cenobio de Valeron is an incredible archaeological site of inestimable value as well as great fascination. Entirely excavated by hand, this intricate system of cells, which at first glance resembles a beehive, was once the granary of the local community. Needless to say, a visit to one of the most fascinating historical places in the entire archipelago is a must.

4. Roque Nublo

Natural monument of volcanic origin, Roque Nublo is the perfect destination for a day of hiking and photography: located within a vast natural area with numerous trails and picnic areas, this monolith is the perfect place to rest between passes and take evocative photos to add to your travel memories.

5. Puerto de las nieves

If you are passing through the northwestern part of the island, you cannot miss a visit to Puerto de las nieves, a very quaint and friendly fishing village. For those who like to enjoy some slow-paced living among typical blue-detailed white houses, beaches and great local food, this location is the ideal destination.

6. Cueva de Sansón

A must-visit if traveling to Gran Canaria is the Cueva de Sanson, a huge cave accessible via a wonderful ocean-view walkway. This place, with its imposing appearance and full of charm, provides moments of rest and coolness even on the hottest days.

7. Barranco de las vacas

Another naturalistic gem of Gran Canaria is the Barranco de las vacas, a kind of Canary Island canyon. Getting lost in the endless shades of the rock, among its sinuous shapes and in the alleys that make up this gorge, is a unique experience.

8. Azulejos

Staying with the theme, a place with a crazy geological conformation is definitely La Fuente de los Azulejos: this area is distinguished by the visible stratifications of different types of rock. The bright turquoise color of the green and pink clay layers transforms the panorama into a wonderful postcard. Highly recommended to go there in the rainy season, when water basins and waterfalls are created and add a fairy-like touch to the landscape.

9. Tejeda

A charming rural village located in the central part of Gran Canaria, the municipality of Tejeda is famous for its almond trees, which in bloom time envelop every corner of the village with their sweet scent. A taste to the local pastries, almond-based of course, is unavoidable; your palate will thank you!

10. Playa de las Canteras

After all this wandering a relaxing day at the beach is more than deserved. Among the most striking beaches in Gran Canaria is definitely Playa de las Canteras: with an extension of more than 3 km, it is the ideal place to enjoy long swims in its calm waters and end the day with an aperitif in one of the downtown clubs, located a short walk from the beach.

👜 Emprendedora
🫂 Fundadora del programa My Friend in
✈️ Bloguera de viaje
💻 Creadora de contenido
📷 Fotógrafa
💪🏻 Y gran trabajadora

Antes que influencer
🤣🤣

✨️las noches enteras organizando viajes y excursiones "a medida" para que todos puedan vivir una experiencia única y segura;
